Bitlocker alone doesn’t protect you

BitLocker is a built-in encryption feature that helps protect your data on your computer in case it’s lost or stolen by encrypting the entire hard drive. While it’s an excellent measure to secure your data from unauthorized access, BitLocker’s protection is limited to scenarios where your computer is locked or powered off.

Once you log in to your computer, BitLocker does not offer any additional protection for individual files. This means that if someone gains access to your logged-in computer, they can potentially access your sensitive data without encountering any barriers.

To enhance the security of your files even while you’re actively using your computer, you may want to consider using encryption software like AxCrypt. AxCrypt allows you to encrypt individual files or folders with a password or key, adding an extra layer of security. This ensures your sensitive data remains private and safe from unauthorized access, even if someone gains access to your logged-in computer.

By combining the whole-disk encryption provided by BitLocker with the file-level encryption offered by AxCrypt, you can create a more comprehensive security solution to protect your valuable data. This multi-layered approach helps you maintain privacy, comply with data protection regulations, and reduce the risk of data breaches or leaks. It’s especially important for businesses and individuals handling sensitive or confidential information, such as financial records, personal data, or trade secrets.
